The United European Gastroenterology Podcast
00:00:00: Hello, and welcome to UEG Talks.
00:00:02: My name is Agle.
00:00:03: And my name is Pradeep.
00:00:05: I think this is the first time we're co-hosting an episode together.
00:00:08: Is that right?
00:00:09: Yes, it is.
00:00:10: And it's a special occasion.
00:00:12: We've got a bonus episode for you today.
00:00:14: Excellent.
00:00:15: So as you may have already seen from the title, we are looking back at the UEG Week in twenty twenty-four last year in Vienna.
00:00:25: Whilst we were there, myself and Agle, We spoke to a number of delegates.
00:00:31: Some of them were chosen at random whilst we were walking around, and some of them perhaps less so, so that we can hear their impressions on the meeting of the UG Week.
00:00:42: The thoughts might have some useful insights ahead of the serious UG Week in Berlin, which keeps us in just a few days.
00:00:49: Listen closely, you might even see a few familiar faces in Berlin.
00:00:53: Both of us, Egley and me, will be there all the three to four days.
00:00:57: Egley is kindly presenting on BPI, so a very important topic, not the miss, on Monday morning at eight thirty in room A seven.
00:01:06: And I've got a couple of commitments.
00:01:08: I'm chairing a couple of poster sessions, one on upper GI bleed on Sunday at nine o'clock and another one on colorectal polyprotection on Tuesday at one p.m.
00:01:19: at the poster stage five.
00:01:22: So there's plenty of amazing topics, discussions.
00:01:26: Check out the program for details on the UG website.
00:01:29: And while you're there, don't miss our newest UG publication, The Gut Guide.
00:01:34: You can pick up for free copy in a speaker center.
00:01:37: And of course, the highlight of UG Week always has been the UG night.
00:01:43: So if you're there, please book it.
00:01:45: Bring in your best nineteen twenties outfit.
00:01:48: and join us for the party and to meet everyone around.
00:01:52: Oh, well, now for the promotion.
00:01:54: Let's hear from the people in Vienna at last year's UG's week had to save.
00:01:59: Oh, hi there.
00:01:59: What's your name, sorry?
00:02:00: Enrique de Malaria.
00:02:01: Oh,
00:02:01: where do you come from, Enrique?
00:02:03: From Alicante, from Spain.
00:02:04: Is this the first time in UG?
00:02:06: No, no.
00:02:08: UG for me is the best gastroenterology activity, so I don't miss one.
00:02:14: Well, why do you come here, a year after you then?
00:02:16: Okay, because in my field is the pancreas.
00:02:20: Yes.
00:02:20: And what you can find in the EEG is whatever you want, because the EEG has many, many parallel sessions on every topic.
00:02:31: So for guys like me that we are focused on a very particular field is a source of education and contacts.
00:02:39: And you see guys from all over the world that are doing and treating the same patients as you.
00:02:46: for me is a must.
00:02:47: So you come here to
00:02:51: learn to do research, to get contacts for research, and to participate in committees, participate in activities, and to boost my career.
00:03:03: And when you meet people, so you randomly choose a speaker, and then you randomly approach them, even if you don't know them, to kind of to link between them if there's a topic of interest or how you do or you.
00:03:16: just well
00:03:17: we talk because well in my world is quite we are quite a few so we know each other.
00:03:24: but you know new people that are in the field young people.
00:03:27: the people ask for to join our studies and you try to join guidelines studies a lot of things.
00:03:36: so well It's a must.
00:03:39: The way it is a must, my friend.
00:03:40: So you look for collaborators not only with your research
00:03:43: but also
00:03:44: for research felons who can contact
00:03:46: you.
00:03:46: Contacts, education and opportunities.
00:03:49: Is there any particular topic that's outside your field?
00:03:52: Of course you know you feel this kind of place.
00:03:54: Is there any particular topic outside your field that you're interested and want to learn a bit more
00:03:59: about?
00:03:59: No.
00:04:00: I love my field.
00:04:01: I'm super focused.
00:04:02: But for people who loves... several topics, you have an incredible amount of opportunities and to learn and to learn about different topics.
00:04:12: So, well, it's also for people that are general gastronautologists and want to have a broad view of their specialties.
00:04:21: Okay,
00:04:22: okay, fine.
00:04:24: And what is any particular topic you're looking forward to?
00:04:28: Acute
00:04:28: pancreatitis, clinical acute pancreatitis and chronic pancreatitis.
00:04:32: And pancreatic exocrine insufficiency are the things that motivate me the most.
00:04:37: If you want to learn more,
00:04:37: you want to learn the latest, latest science that's been published.
00:04:43: Thank you, thank you,
00:04:45: my friend.
00:04:47: Hey Paula.
00:04:48: Hi Agla.
00:04:49: How are you doing?
00:04:49: How's the UGA week going for you?
00:04:51: The
00:04:51: UGA week has been so great.
00:04:53: A lot of work, you know.
00:04:55: As a share of Young Talent Group we have spent a lot of meetings.
00:04:58: But really in these meetings what surprises me and I'm proud of that is that everyone is really giving attention and wanting to know the needs of the young GI community.
00:05:07: So it really is a must for me to come here and see everything that is being provided for the young GIs.
00:05:13: It's so nice to hear because I just heard, let's say, more senior person telling how inspired he is by the youngsters who are full of ideas and sharing it.
00:05:23: Yeah, it's true.
00:05:24: And you know, most of UEDG activities and are provided for.
00:05:29: the main group is the young GI community.
00:05:32: And I think that we really want to be here and show what we can do.
00:05:36: We have new ideas.
00:05:37: We're not saying here that the senior ideas don't count.
00:05:39: We still really much appreciate the experience and everything.
00:05:43: We really want to learn from the leaders and so we can one day be like them.
00:05:47: They're an inspiration for us.
00:05:49: But we also want to provide new insights and new ideas of what we can do with UVG.
00:05:54: Have you seen any sessions?
00:05:56: Yes, I attended some sessions.
00:05:58: And
00:05:58: have you learned something that will inspire or change your practice?
00:06:03: Yes, of course.
00:06:04: But I was mainly now in sessions that I really need for my clinical practice.
00:06:09: And in the future, what I will do is I will see the webcast for UVG week.
00:06:13: As you know, when you are in the part of UVG, you don't have that many time to attend the sessions.
00:06:20: But I was in some sessions that really provided me some updates on what we can do in clinical practice.
00:06:25: That's mainly what I do.
00:06:26: I'm a clinician.
00:06:27: And it was really, really helpful to get all that into one session and really be updated.
00:06:32: Great to hear this.
00:06:33: Thank you, Paola.
00:06:34: Hi there.
00:06:36: Introduce yourself.
00:06:37: So I'm Luke.
00:06:38: I'm from Malta.
00:06:40: Malta, lovely weather there.
00:06:42: Very sunny, yeah.
00:06:43: It's super, it's always sunny.
00:06:45: Exciting, excellent.
00:06:46: What brings you to Vienna?
00:06:48: So this is my second time coming to UEG.
00:06:52: Lovely, yeah.
00:06:54: I came here to... meet people and learn about the interesting topics in gastroenterology.
00:07:00: Okay.
00:07:00: And are you a gastroenterologist or a fellow?
00:07:03: Yeah, I'm a trainee.
00:07:04: It's my second year of training.
00:07:06: And so I'm training in Malta.
00:07:08: Lovely.
00:07:08: And do you have any speciality within gastroenterology that you practice?
00:07:12: Well,
00:07:12: basically right now we're doing general gastroenterology.
00:07:15: We do a bit of everything.
00:07:17: Yeah.
00:07:18: But currently I'm working with a doctor who specializes in gastroenterology, who specializes in EMRs and therapeutic endoscopy in polypeptomies.
00:07:27: Yeah, okay, fine.
00:07:28: And so, second time in EEG, you said?
00:07:30: Yeah,
00:07:31: exactly.
00:07:31: What brings you the second time?
00:07:34: Well, this year I'm presenting an E-Poster about musculoskeletal injuries in endoscopists and how we can prevent them in our everyday endoscopic practice.
00:07:45: So I'm here to share that research.
00:07:48: Also, I'm here to network and meet new people and hopefully, and take back some interesting ideas back to Malta.
00:07:55: What's the most interesting thing about UEG Week that you like
00:07:59: then?
00:07:59: Well, the innovation, the new management, new treatment guidelines.
00:08:06: I love hearing about inflammatory bowel disease and emerging biologics that are available, which aren't all available in Malta, but it's very interesting to hear research and ideas from Europe and the worldwide.
00:08:19: So you want to expand your knowledge on anything new.
00:08:22: That's what they come here for knowledge.
00:08:25: And any particular topics that you're going to focus on whilst you're here the next two or three days?
00:08:29: Well, I'm trying to focus on inflammatory bowel disease and see what's
00:08:34: new.
00:08:35: And maybe hopefully take back some ideas back tomorrow.
00:08:39: OK, lovely.
00:08:40: Thanks for your time.
00:08:41: Thank you.
00:08:41: OK.
00:08:43: Hey, Julio.
00:08:44: Hi, Agli.
00:08:44: How are you?
00:08:45: I'm great, I'm enjoying the UG Week and how are you?
00:08:48: I'm really enjoying the
00:08:49: UG Week, it's
00:08:50: amazing and we are also blessed by a very nice weather here in Vienna for a change, so very happy.
00:08:56: It's very important for Italian, of course.
00:08:59: And have you seen anything super spectacular that will change your practice in this UT week?
00:09:04: Well, I've been
00:09:05: in quite
00:09:06: a lot of sessions on the new endoscopic and half surgical approaches
00:09:11: in T-one colorectal cancer.
00:09:13: I think this is a very hot topic.
00:09:14: And I really was inspired
00:09:16: by some talks by
00:09:17: some colleagues from Holland and Poland.
00:09:19: And I'm really looking forward to come back home and implement this.
00:09:24: Exactly.
00:09:25: OK.
00:09:26: And what are you still looking forward to this?
00:09:28: Well, I will be looking
00:09:30: forward to,
00:09:31: there is a couple of sessions, they're a very nice session this afternoon on endoscopy and there will be Michael Bork for EMR versus Jeremy Jacques for ESD
00:09:40: and
00:09:41: I'm really
00:09:42: looking forward to see
00:09:43: this clash of clans.
00:09:44: Okay, there will be blood I guess.
00:09:46: There will.
00:09:47: Okay, thank you.
00:09:48: Enjoy the week.
00:09:49: You too.
00:09:50: How are you, how are you doing?
00:09:52: I'm good, good.
00:09:52: Thank you, yourself.
00:09:53: So,
00:09:54: Omair, do you want to introduce yourself?
00:09:56: Yes, my name is Omair Thayyab.
00:09:57: I'm actually doing an HPB fellowship, ERCB US Fellowship at King's College Hospital London at the moment.
00:10:04: Excellent, excellent.
00:10:05: Omair, why are you here at the UAG?
00:10:07: What are you doing here?
00:10:08: I mean, obviously, you know that it's a big event there.
00:10:11: in regards to gastroenterology there.
00:10:13: My main aim to come this year was to get some updates in regards to my field, HPB, ERCP and EUS
00:10:19: there.
00:10:19: So that's the main aim here.
00:10:21: But obviously to meet people around networking.
00:10:24: And yeah, see Vienna.
00:10:26: Yeah.
00:10:26: Excellent to be here.
00:10:28: Good morning, President.
00:10:29: How are you doing?
00:10:30: Thank you.
00:10:31: I'm really doing very well.
00:10:33: Are you enjoying this UT week?
00:10:35: Very much so.
00:10:37: It is a fantastic program, I think.
00:10:40: Nice weather outside, even if I don't see that much of it.
00:10:43: And a very good atmosphere.
00:10:44: People are happy and obviously enjoying the week.
00:10:47: As always, it's UEG.
00:10:49: Right.
00:10:50: Have you attended any sessions?
00:10:52: Well, some at least.
00:10:53: I have to admit the ones which I was chairing, which was also nice.
00:10:58: Best of DDW.
00:10:59: Okay.
00:11:01: Here at our UEG week, which was full.
00:11:05: Very nice program, so I enjoyed that much and obviously the opening session.
00:11:11: Yeah, it was great.
00:11:13: That I enjoyed very much, I must say.
00:11:16: The two talks were fantastic, I think, and really inspiring.
00:11:22: And what are you still looking forward to this UAG week?
00:11:26: Don't laugh now, I think the UAG night.
00:11:30: Have you brought your ladle,
00:11:31: Hosen?
00:11:32: Of course I did.
00:11:34: Okay,
00:11:35: you are according to the dress code.
00:11:37: I
00:11:38: will comply with the dress code.
00:11:40: Yes, watch me, because this will be a very unique appearance.
00:11:45: I can tell you that much.
00:11:47: And tomorrow then I think we still have some very nice sessions, which I will also as much as I can.
00:11:56: attended and joined.
00:11:57: Notably, we have one session with the Latin American friends, which I think is also a highlight of the UG Week for me now.
00:12:07: Okay.
00:12:07: Thank you, Professor.
00:12:08: Thank you.
00:12:10: Hi, Sarah.
00:12:10: Hi, Lucia.
00:12:11: How are you doing?
00:12:12: How was the UG Week?
00:12:14: It's been amazing until now.
00:12:16: Yes, we love it.
00:12:17: And what have you seen that inspired you or will change your practice?
00:12:22: Well, I don't know if it will change my practice, but today Tandon talk about acute pancreatitis was quite amazing and fun and practical.
00:12:31: Yes, I really enjoyed it, especially the fact that Enrique, who won the prize, was the patient in this talk.
00:12:38: This is a nice way to talk about a topic like with a clinical... Scenario.
00:12:43: Yeah, and also the mistakes in hepatobiliary diseases was a very nice session.
00:12:48: So this is something that I will definitely disseminate to my residents.
00:12:52: Yeah.
00:12:54: So a lot of talks that will transfer to your clinical practice, right?
00:12:58: Yeah, definitely.
00:12:59: Yeah, and the sessions never waste a good disaster.
00:13:03: That's something I really attended.
00:13:06: It was yesterday, I think.
00:13:07: So very useful and emotional.
00:13:12: And what will you expect to see next?
00:13:15: What are you still looking forward in this UG week?
00:13:19: I'm looking forward to my EUS practice at the SG corner.
00:13:25: So I'm looking forward to that and to the party.
00:13:28: What about you, Lucia?
00:13:30: There will be some nice oral presentations tomorrow also, so let's see what they bring us in.
00:13:37: acute chronic pancreatitis, moderated posters that are also interesting, so many things to come.
00:13:42: And also when I have the time and I'm alone, which is not very often at this conference, I just scroll the posters that are not even moderated.
00:13:50: There are many nice topics, ideas for future collaboration, everything.
00:13:55: Really interesting things all in the posters, so yeah.
00:13:58: Okay, so you're also planning for the next year for your research, right?
00:14:03: Yeah, in fact, I hope that next year we will bring some interesting news about fluid recitation, so we'll see you.
00:14:13: We'll see you.
00:14:14: We'll see you tonight, girls.
00:14:16: Thank you.
00:14:17: Good morning, Iris.
00:14:18: How are you?
00:14:19: Good morning.
00:14:20: I'm doing great.
00:14:21: Thank you.
00:14:21: How are you?
00:14:22: I'm great.
00:14:23: I'm doing the UG week fairly.
00:14:25: And you?
00:14:26: Have you seen anything inspiring that will alter your clinical practice?
00:14:30: I really liked it this far.
00:14:31: What I really liked was the interactive sessions.
00:14:35: There was a lot of interaction during the sessions that I've seen.
00:14:39: And what I also liked was the involvement of young people, so young chairs, but also young people asking questions, which is very encouraging.
00:14:52: Okay, so the atmosphere is great so far, right?
00:14:55: Totally.
00:14:56: And what are you still looking forward in this UG week?
00:15:01: I would like to see
00:15:02: more diversity sometimes.
00:15:04: To see more female chairs, see
00:15:08: more
00:15:10: other diversity would be nice.
00:15:14: Yeah, really nice.
00:15:16: Thank you.
00:15:17: Thank you so much.
